Elements of a seedpod
This scan shows three stages of a pod. Left, shortly after the pod has formed and the petals have fallen. Center, a pod as it ripens. Right, the dark stripe on the pod forms- when the entire pistil is brown, they should be removed from the plant.
This scan shows the detail of the dark stripe forming.
This is a mature pod I collected on July 8, 2002.
It contained 5 seeds which I will now plant :)
Species Geranium Seedpod

Below is a scan of four separate stages of a species geranium seedpod, Geranium sanguineum. Note on the third pod from the left, the seeds are held above the remaining sepals, and in the fourth view, it opened as soon as I twisted it.
