Religious Subjects

in all media

I am often drawn to painting or drawing religious subjects, and am most enticed by antique illuminated manuscripts and traditional icons.  I seem to, at times, struggle with attaining the perfection I desire in religious subjects, and I think that is because I will never feel I can really capture the essence of God, Jesus, Mary, the angels, etc.  This does not mean I feel inadequate, it means that I have such a high regard for God and the Saints, that nothing I could ever attain would match who they really are.

And so, what I do, what seems to come naturally to me, is to use symbolic or representational elements to convey the "thought" of God and religious subjects.  Reminders to myself and others that God is there, never to be truly conveyed or depicted (in my opinion), but to be reminded of in our daily lives.

As with everything else in my life, this page begins with The Our Father:
