Rotring Artist Color Set

If I were ever marooned on a desert island with just one ink brand (other than black India ink), I would want it to be Rotring Artist Color Transparent acrylic "ink".  Unfortunately, this line was discontinued and it is very difficult to find.  However, it warrants a page because if you do ever find it as "new old stock", I recommend you buy it and cherish it.

Artist Color Transparent is an acrylic, and it is so finely ground, I have never had a problem with it clogging pens.  It is permanent, waterproof and lightfast.  In addition to being wonderful in technical pens, it can be used with dips pens for all types of art or calligraphy, and although I am not an airbrush artist, I have heard it is superior in airbrushes.  It can also be used as a watercolor if diluted with distilled water, and when mixed with acrylic medium can be used as a thicker acrylic paint.  I have used the transparent colors in many of these applications for years - I believe the "sister" colors that are the Opaque Set would have slightly different properties, especially in technical pens and regarding clogging.

The transparent set shown below has twelve colors in it, and a wonderful mixing chart that shows the versatility of a 12-color palette.

Click here for the Color Chart - even if using other inks or liquid medium, this chart shows a large array of colors available from a 12-color palette.
